Additional policies for students conducting ambulance internship within their own department. The student must be listed on staffing documents as non-essential personnel. They can’t be counted towards on-duty staff numbers.
- The student can’t complete, under their own name, any official documents of the department.
- The student may not be assigned any fire training tasks or duties. They are to be treated as an EMS student.
- The student may not wear bunker gear or other department clothing. The student is representing the school and not the department.
- The student must run all calls in complete school uniform.
- The student may not drive department vehicles.
- The student may not be in sleeping quarters between start of shift and 2100 hours.
- The student can’t be placed out of duty without prior school contact. If ambulance is out of service for an extended period of time the student is to be moved to another unit.
- It is important that the station officers understand that the students are told to call the school if given instructions that may violate program policy. It is not personal.
