Hybrid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program
Are you interested in starting a great career in EMS as an EMT but don’t have the time for a traditional classroom program? Would you like to learn all the skills and information around your busy schedule? Consider our online Hybrid EMT course. This program is intended for those who want to gain employment as a firefighter, emergency care technician at a hospital and ambulance attendant. It is also for those individuals who are planning on attempting to obtain a higher level of medical training such as RN, PA, or physician.
This hybrid EMT program is delivered primarily online and is designed for strong, self-motivated students who can effectively manage their time, and take responsibility for their own learning. While this format offers better flexibility, it requires consistent engagement with the material, strong time management, and students who can thrive on learning independently; the online format will not be for all students.
The course is structured as a hybrid program, students will be required to participate in scheduled live zoom sessions, attend both skill sessions, and complete field experiences. The course is divided into eight grading periods, each lasting approximately two weeks, with a required live zoom session at the end of each grading period.
Program Expectations
- Grading Period Structure: The course is divided into eight grading periods, each lasting approximately two weeks. Coursework, assignments, and quizzes must be completed during each grading period and are due at the end of that period.
- Mandatory Live Sessions: At the end of each grading period, students must attend a mandatory 4-hour live Zoom session with the instructor. These sessions are used for review, discussion, and reinforcement of key concepts and are required for course participation.
- Self-Directed Learning: This course requires students to stay on schedule, complete assignments independently, and actively engage with the material without constant instructor oversight.
- Time Commitment: Students should expect to dedicate approximately 10 hours per week to coursework, reading, studying, and assignments. This workload is comparable to a 4-5 credit hour college course.
- Technology Requirements: Students must be comfortable using computers and online learning systems. The ability to navigate the learning platform, upload assignments, and complete quizzes or exams online is required.
- Seeking Help and Collaboration: Students are expected to seek assistance when needed and communicate with instructors if they are struggling with course material. Collaboration and studying with classmates is strongly encouraged.
- Field Internship: Students must complete 32 hours of internship shifts with an approved 911 agency to gain real-world exposure to EMS operations and patient care.
Please review both the Hybrid and the Traditional Classroom program descriptions. There are tradeoffs doing a Hybrid course vs a Traditional Classroom program. You have to be disciplined and not procrastinate while in a Hybrid program. Must be an organized individual and have good time management skills for a Hybrid program. You are more isolated during a Hybrid program and learning medicine is a “team sport.” A Hybrid course is not for everyone. Feel free to contact our office if you have questions which is better for you.
