POLICY AND PROCEDURES

EMTS' First Responder Course 

INFORMATION IS REVIEWED DURING FIRST CLASS

Attendance

Unexcused Absence – Students are allowed up to four hours of classroom absences before being placed on attendance probation.  Any additional time missed the participant will not be permitted to receive an EMTS First Responder certificate but will still receive Wylie ISD credit for the program.

Unexcused Tardy – Students are allowed up to two classroom tardies before being place on attendance probation.  Any additional time missed the participant will not be permitted to receive an EMTS First Responder certificate but will still receive Wylie ISD credit for the program. A tardy is defined as arriving to the classroom/instructor after the scheduled start time.  If the student arrives more than 20 minutes late they will be marked absent (1 class block).  The student may still participate in the remainder of the current sessions activities.  It is the student’s responsibility to bring to the instructors attention the moment that they arrived. 

Grade Point Average

Quizzes – The student quiz score accounts for 28% of the total grade point average.  If the student is absent they will not be allowed to take the quiz and will receive a 0% for that quiz.  If the student is tardy they will be allotted the remaining time that the rest of the class has to finish the quiz.

Final Grade Point Average – Students must score an 78% or better on the final exam and have an overall final grade point average of 78% or greater to successfully complete the course.  

Cheating/Falsifying Records

Any cheating or falsifying any information (verbal or written) is grounds for immediate dismissal from the program.  Cheating applies to exams, quizzes, homework, and/or skills testing.

Food and Beverages

Food is permitted only before class or during breaks.  No food will be permitted in the classroom while class is in session.  Beverages are allowed during class unless skills are being performed which may result in equipment damage if spillage take place.  Wylie ISD rules supersede EMTS' policies.

Dress Code

Students shall wear clothing appropriate for adult education during classroom hours.  Some classes will consist of lifting and moving classmates along with lying on the ground.  Closed toed shoes must be worn at all times. If a school function on the day of class requires open toed shoes an exception shall be made.  Proper hygiene shall be enforced during class time. 

Conflict Resolution

At any time a student feels a decision or situation has occurred that has been viewed unfair during the course the student may ask to speak to the lead instructor, course coordinator, and/or course medical director without fear of retaliation.  If further action is required or requested a management board (minimum of three) will meet and make a final decision and the student can address the board.

State Certification, National Testing and Passing

This Wylie course will only issue an EMTS First Responder Certificate and the end of the class.  Participants will not be eligible for National Registry testing upon completion.

American’s with Disability Act

Students must have acceptable documentation that an ADA situation exists.  The student must bring this information to the course coordinators attention before the conclusion of the first class session.  Information will be reviewed and student will be advised if ADA applies to EMS training.

Smoking, Tobacco, Drugs, and Other Alcohol Products

None of the above mentioned products will be permitted in the classroom.  Tobacco products will only be permitted in approved areas only.  Arriving to a course, rotation or clinical while under the influence of a substance that has affected or may affect the student’s best judgment will result in dismissal from the program and possible law enforcement involvement, if the law permits.

Prescription Medication

Any student on a medication or substance that may affect the bodies ability to function in a safe manner must be reported to the instructor immediately at the start of class. 

Refunds

No refunds are issued once the first day of the course has concluded for any reasons.  The seat deposit is non-refundable.  If student is dismissed fro the program, with cause, no refunds are issued.  If student drops out no refunds are issued.  Wylie School is paying for this course.
