This page contains information on BLS Online renewal and ACLS by computer disc renewal.

The American Heart Association (AHA) has introduced several electronic courses for the learner.  At this time AHA is offering BLS Healthcare Provider Online Renewal and ACLS Heartcode Disk Renewal courses.  All AHA courses require skills testing by an approved Training Center once the online knowledge is obtained. 

Steps for BLS Healthcare Provider Online:

Audience: This online options is not intended for first time students.  Also this course is not intended for those who have limited exposure or knowledge in regards to cardiac arrest.

Disclaimer: The online portion of the program, Part 1, takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete.  The skills testing, Part 2, takes approximately 25 minutes to 1 hour to complete.  Time depends on how well prepared the student is.  This timeline does not factor in travel time.  Note: EMTS' renewal course is approximately 4 hours in length - start to finish. Please do not base your decision to take the course online because you will save time.  This is not always the case for renewals.

This is however a great resource for those who do not have a  flexible schedule to attend traditional courses when offered.

Step 1.    Students interested in completing the online course should contact EMTS to seek availability for a skills testing session before purchasing.  In the general public some have done the online program and cannot find a center to perform the skills testing session.

Step 2.    Students log onto the AHA website at www.onlinetrainingplace.com. This is the direct link to the registration and information page.  The online fee is $17.50 charged while online to register for Part 1.

Step3.    Students must complete the 12 mandatory checkpoints and upon completion take the online exam.  Students must achieve a minimum score of 84% or higher.

Step 4.     Students print out Part 1 certificate showing completion and present to the instructor at the skills testing session. Skills testing fee is $45.00 per attempt.

Step 5.     Upon successful completion of Part 1 and the skills testing session, students receive an AHA - BLS Healthcare provider completion card valid for 2 years.

Step 6.     Register with EMTS for a time to perform your skills testing session, Part 2.

Please do not base your decision to take the course online because you will save time.  This is not always the case for renewals.

Step 2.    Students order the ACLS disk for one of the four AHA national distributors.  $120.00 - fee includes disk only.

Step3.    Students must complete the 10 mandatory checkpoints and upon completion take the exam on the disk.  Students must achieve a minimum score of 84% or higher.

Step 4.     Students print out Part 1 certificate showing completion and present to the instructor at the skills testing session. Skills testing fee is $90.00 per attempt.

Step 5.     Upon successful completion of Part 1 and the skills testing session, students receive an AHA - ACLS provider completion card valid for 2 years.

Step 6.     Register with EMTS for a skills testing session, Part 2.
