Vehicle Operations:
Note: When you review these protocols you must ensure that all the equipment is present to comply with each protocol. If during your daily check of the ambulance or unit you do not have required equipment instruct dispatch you are out of service. The daily check should be completed every shift no matter what the excuse.
Note: When using light and sirens it is advisable and safest to use both at the same time. Some departments have other views. Always follow local protocol.
Note: Cleaning Ambulance. Use a utility or vinyl glove to clean surfaces not exam gloves. Wash surface with cleaner then wash with disinfectant. If bodily fluid on equipment soak in 1/4 cut bleach to 1 gallon water for at least 10 minutes.
Note: Hazardous Scenes. Use binoculars to view placards from a safe distance. Refer to the Emergency Response Guidebook for directions. (This book is only valid for the first 20 to 30 minutes). DO NOT ENTER THE SCENE. IF YOU DID ENTER YOU SHOULD NOT LEAVE UNTIL BEING DECONTAMINATED.
